Istanbul Arbitration Week - ISTAW 2022
Istanbul Arbitration Week 2022 (ISTAW 2022) was organized by Energy Dispute Arbitration Centre - EDAC at Sait Halim Paşa Mansion between October 10-14, 2022. The event was attended by 28 supporting organizations, including the most successful arbitration centers, organizations such as Greener Arbitrations and Arbitral Women, and supported by 11 sponsors.
Erdem & Erdem Founder and Senior Partner Prof. Dr. H. Ercüment Erdem gave a speech at the first panel of the event. In the panel “Global Developments affecting Turkey and the Region” chaired by Andrew Clarke, Prof. Dr. H. Ercüment Erdem joined by Sebastian Neave of J.S. Held LLC, Danielle Morris of WilmerHale, Geneviève Poirier of Lalive and Svetlana London of CIS London & Partners discussed the powershifts in 2022, the war in Ukraine, Western response to the war, a rapidly growing economic storm, severe inflation and the climate crisis and what this has all meant for Türkiye and the region.
At the ISTAW event, which brought arbitrators, lawyers, academics, and arbitration experts from all over the world together, issues such as arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism for administrative disputes, how EU will overcome the issues of incompatibility, arbitration and technology relationship, the implications of Russia sanctions for litigation and arbitration, arbitration in the midst of global energy crisis, in house counsel perspective, arbitration in Middle East, human rights and arbitration , diversity in arbitration & business and new developments in investment arbitration were discussed.
The event was well attended and attracted great interest, with a rich program of reflection and discussion, where all participants, including arbitration professionals and practitioners, had the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences in the field of international arbitration.
